Call to Worship
Have someone read aloud:
Hebrews 11:1-2, 13 (NKJV)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Prayer
Sovereign God, You are worthy of all our trust and confidence. You are good. That truth remains eternal. We believe. O Lord, be known, be exalted and be praised in all the earth. We lift You high. Amen.
Worship through Songs
TEXT & MUSIC: John Francis Wade
[Verse 1]
O come, all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him一
Born the King of angels
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!
[Verse 2]
Sing, choirs of angels
Sing in exultation
O sing, all ye bright hosts of heav’n above
Glory to God
All glory in the highest
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!
[Verse 3]
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv’n
Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!

[Verse 1]
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head
The stars in the sky looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay
在一個馬槽裏 , 無搖籃可用
Ti chit ê bé-chô lai, bô iô-na thang eng
這小孩主耶穌 , 整暝睡靜靜
Che soe-hàn Chú Yâ-So, kui-mi khùn cheng-cheng
在天上有星辰 , 在照祂面貌

這小孩主耶穌 , 在睡在乾草
Che soe-hàn Chú Yâ-So, teh khùn ti ta chhau
[Verse 2]
The cattle are lowing; the Baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus一no crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my side until morning is nigh
牛羊有出大聲 , 嬰仔都無驚
Gû-iû u chhut toa sia, e á lóng bô kia
這小孩主耶穌 , 都無哭一聲
Che soe-hàn Chú Yâ-So, long bô hau chit-sia
主耶穌我愛祢 , 懇求祢整夜
Chú Yâ-So góa thia Li, khun kîu Li thong-mî
來住在我身邊 , 到天光之時
Lâi tiàm ti góa sin-pi, kàu thi-kng ê-si

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there

[Verse 1]
O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
[Verse 2]
For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wond’ring love
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God, the King
And peace to men on earth
[Verse 3]
How silently, how silently
The wondrous Gift is giv’n
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heav’n
No ear may hear His coming
But in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive Him still
The dear Christ enters in
[Verse 4]
O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend on us, we pray
Cast out our sin, and enter in
Be born in us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord, Emmanuel
Scripture Reading
Read aloud (together if applicable).
R-56: THE FIRST CHRISTMAS (第一個聖誕節)
Luke 2:1, 4-14 (NKJV)
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Sermon
Song of Response
TEXT & MUSIC: Harry Bollback
Ring the bells! Ring the bells!
Let the whole world know
Christ was born in Bethlehem
Many years ago
Born to die that man might live
Came to earth new life to give
Born of Mary, born so low
Many years ago
God the Father gave His Son
Gave His own beloved One
To this wicked, sinful earth
To bring mankind His love, new birth
Ring the bells! Ring the bells!
Let the whole world know
Christ the Savior lives today
As He did so long ago
[Repeat]
Worship through Prayer
Lord, I need Your help to face the unexpected challenges that come my way. Do not let any of them destroy me. Instead, give me faith to overcome and strength of will to do what is right in Your eyes. Let me move unwaveringly towards the path of righteousness even when I'm hurting badly.
All-knowing God, I admit that it is hard for me to go through trials and still believe that it will bring about good. Please hold me close to You as I struggle in fear through darkness until I see Your precious light. Help me in my unbelief. I want to believe You.
Lord, I don't need to know everything. That's fine. You know all things and that's what matters. So I will follow You. You know the way. Give me the faith to move in step with Your Spirit according to Your Word each day. I know one day it will all make sense. For now, give me peace to deal with the unknown. Amen.
Self-Reflection & Discussion
What is one plan you have that got broken (for this year or in the past)? Evaluate your response: Did you do what was right? Did you trust God and accepted His sovereign plan?
How would you improve your response to things not going according to your plan?
What struggles do you think you'll face in trying to respond to broken plans the way the Bible teaches? Pray and ask God for help and guidance.
