Call to Worship

Have someone read aloud:

Romans 8:31-39 (NKJV)

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Prayer

O what great and awesome love is this that You have lavished upon us, Your chosen ones. We praise You for Your goodness and lovingkindness. Thank You for conquering all things so that we can remain Yours forever. Be exalted in the praises of Your people both now and forevermore. Amen.

Scripture Reading

R-52: The Beatitudes (八福)

Matthew 5:1-12 (NKJV)

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Sermon

Song of Response

Lyrics - All the Way My Savior Leads Me

Worship through Prayer

  1. Lord, help me overcome the fear of helping other people in need. The possible risk of getting involved could be serious. It has made me hesitate even unwilling to do so. Please give me the courage to do what is right when the need to help arises. Protect me when I help others in Your Name.

  2. Many people are hurting around me. Give me eyes to see, heart to care, and courage to reach out with Your gracious love. May those hurting be reminded of Your love in the way I show them care and kindness.

  3. Teach me to uphold You above myself. Help me to follow Your leading even when I do not understand. I believe You know all things and it is safest to follow You. I trust that whatever befalls me will be for good. Give me courage to follow You till the end.

Self-Reflection & Discussion

  1. What courageous acts do you see being done on any ordinary day by ordinary people?

  2. How would you live out an everyday kind of courage?

  3. Discuss ways you can live with courage in this time of uncertainty because of the pandemic.
