Call to Worship
Have someone read aloud:
Galatians 6:7-9 (NKJV)
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Prayer
God Almighty, there is no one like You. You are perfect in every way. Your wisdom is above and beyond all else. We bow and worship You for You alone are God. We are Yours. Our true love and obedience belong to You alone. Amen.
Worship through Songs
TEXT: Folliott S. Pierpoint | MUSIC: Conrad Kocher
[Verse 1]
For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
[Verse 2]
For the wonder of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of light:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
[Verse 3]
For the joy of human love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mild:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
[Verse 4]
For Thy Church that evermore
Lifteth holy hands above
Offering up on every shore
Her pure sacrifice of love:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
[Verse 5]
For Thyself, best gift divine
To our race so freely given
For that great, great love of Thine
Peace on earth and joy in heaven:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
TEXT: Augustus M. Toplady | MUSIC: Thomas Hastings
[Verse 1]
Rock of Ages, cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee
Let the water and the blood
From Thy wounded side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure
Save from wrath and make me pure
[Verse 2]
Could my tears forever flow
Could my zeal no langour know
These for sin could not atone
Thou must save, and Thou alone
In my hand no price I bring
Simply to Thy cross I cling
[Verse 3]
While I draw this fleeting breadth
When mine eyelids close in death
When I soar through tracts unknown
See Thee on Thy judgement throne
Rock of Ages, cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee
TEXT & MUSIC: Michael Ledner
You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You,
I will trust in You.
Let the weak say,
“I am strong in the strength of the Lord.”
You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You,
I will trust in You.
Let the weak say,
“I am strong in the strength of the Lord.”
I will trust in You
Scripture Reading
Read aloud (together if applicable).
R-52: THE BEATITUDES (八福)
Matthew 5:1-12 (NKJV)
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Sermon
Song of Response
TEXT & MUSIC: Eugene M. Bartlett
[Verse 1]
I’m pressing on the upward way
New heights I’m gaining every day
Still praying as I’m onward bound
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
Lord, lift me up and let me stand
By faith on heaven’s tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground
[Verse 2]
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay
Tho’ some may dwell where these abound
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground
Lord, lift me up and let me stand
By faith on heaven’s tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground
[Verse 3]
I want to live above the world
Tho’ Satan’s darts at me are hurled
For faith has caught the joyful sound
The song of saints on higher ground
Lord, lift me up and let me stand
By faith on heaven’s tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground
[Verse 4]
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright
But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”
Lord, lift me up and let me stand
By faith on heaven’s tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground
Worship through Prayer
Lord, help my heart to stop wavering between this world and You. Help me to resolve fully to live in obedience to Your Word. I want to walk in the path of righteousness that You have prepared for me.
Remind me that the pleasures of this world can never bring me true joy and satisfaction. Help me not be deceived nor be trapped in sin again because of my unbridled foolish desires. Keep me holy and pure.
Save those who have fallen in sin. May Your Spirit convict them of their sins and lead them to repentance. May Your mercy be upon them. Forgive them, O Lord, and restore to them the joy of Your salvation. Let it not be too late for them to turn from their wicked ways because of their hardened hearts.
