Call to Worship

Have someone read aloud:

James 4:13-17 (NKJV)

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

You are the all-knowing God. We praise and worship You. Nothing is hidden from You. All things lay bare before You. Purify us that we may come before You aright to offer sacrifices of praise in honor of You. Blessed be Your Name forever and ever, for wisdom and might are Yours.

Scripture Reading

Read aloud (together if applicable).

Romans 8:18, 28, 31-39 (NKJV)

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

...If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Worship through Prayer

  1. Uncertainties in life often make me anxious. I wish I knew everything and can be in total control of my life, but that is not so. Help me accept that I will always be limited in knowledge and abilities. Teach me to rely more fully on You, who alone is all-knowing and all-powerful.

  2. Lord, increase my faith in You. Help me to overcome my doubts. When I come to a point in life where I could no longer understand what's going on and what You're doing, enable me to trust in knowing that You are good and sovereignly in control. Help me to be assured that You are the God who cares for me.

  3. Lord, I'm afraid to be weak and vulnerable. Yet, these are inevitable human conditions. When times of weakness come, let me remember that Your grace is sufficient and that Your power is made perfect in my weakness. That it's okay to be weak because You will be there for me and You will surely carry me through. Thank You for Your Word.
